STOP LEAVING NORTH DISTRICT NORTH IN DEFENSE OF ALCORCÓN

Some twenty people attended on Saturday October 16 at the northern march organized by the Platform Alcorcón Stop Northern District, in defense of natural habitats present in the northern town of Alcorcón, including Retamares, steppes and patches of oak. These habitats, which include a botanical endemism present only in this part of the world are threatened by the planned massive urbanization of northern Alcorcón (over 12 km2, about 90,000 new residents, 24,000 new housing, ... all this to develop into one partial plan organized by private owners in the North Town Management Committee).

During the march, members of Stop Northern District denounced some black spots of the project: the origin of the speculative (based on pressure and builders who were able to reclassify some land previously classified as non-development largely protected), problems transport would cause (the outputs of the VA Northern District are expected to live up to the edge of San José de Valdez and the M-40 to link up with the M-50), non-recognition the Public Water from streams running through the area or destruction of habitats of greatest environmental value of Alcorcón, leaving the municipality without undeveloped land and no natural areas.

Contrary to the arguments of the defense council in the Northern District (housing, employment, sustainability), Stop Northern District responds that the housing problem is not resolved by a housing market controlled by management, in which builders and banks but still benefit by a public housing stock for rent, that jobs advertised are based on the construction (poor) and not in boosting entrepreneurial activities that create real wealth production; that other industrial areas in urbanizing Alcorcón as the technological park of El Lucero has suffered stoppages, and that can not be sold as sustainable reduce natural area a 15% green areas. Therefore

Stop Northern District supports the administrative appeal filed by environmentalists in action against the City of Alcorcón to the approval of an amendment to the development plan to legalize this new development, paralyzed three times by the Community of Madrid.
